Capsule Hotels
Sleeping pods, shared bathing and lockers — three hotels that run the format well.

Osaka, Japan
Cabin & Capsule Hotel J-SHIP Osaka Namba
JR Namba station is minutes away on foot, and Dotonbori's neon is not much further. Location does a lot of the work here.
Men and women sleep on separate floors. The women's floor needs a card at both the lift and the door, which many solo travellers mention first.
Two sleeping formats are offered: classic capsules and roomier cabins, each in upper or lower positions. After a long day, the large communal bath is the real draw. Nightwear, towels and toiletries come with the bed.

Singapore
KINN Capsule
South Bridge Road runs along the edge of Chinatown, close to Clarke Quay and the river.
Inside, the mood is soft and pale. Local studio Hjgher designed rounded surfaces and earthy textures, and an artificial ficus climbs three storeys towards a skylight.
Check-in is self-service, doors run on smart locks, and a roof terrace gives some outdoor space. A separate section is set aside for women.

Lucerne, Switzerland
Capsule Hotel – Lucerne Old Town
Switzerland is not cheap, and Lucerne's Old Town even less so. A pod here is one of the more affordable ways to sleep in the middle of it.
Each capsule locks and is soundproofed, set in rooms that hold sixteen. Some capsules are reserved for women only. Another option is step-free, with an accessible bathroom on the same floor.
Downstairs, a library-themed bar and café stays open from breakfast to late evening. The Lion Monument and the lakefront are both within walking distance.
